Hardwood Flooring

Sweep or vacuum regularly using a soft-bristle attachment. Use a damp (not wet) microfibre mop and a hardwood-safe cleaner for deeper cleans. Avoid harsh chemicals and excess water.

Hardwood flooring can be nailed, stapled, or glued down, depending on the subfloor and product. Some engineered options use click-lock systems for easier installation. Always acclimate wood before installing.

Use a floor buffer with a soft polishing pad and a wood floor polish designed for your finish type. Work in sections and avoid over-applying product. Ensure the floor is clean and dry beforehand.

Prefinished hardwood comes with the stain and protective topcoat already applied at the factory. It offers faster installation, consistent finish quality, and immediate usability after fitting.

Steam mops are not recommended for hardwood floors. The heat and moisture can damage the wood and finish over time. Stick to a damp microfibre mop for safe cleaning.

Solid hardwood flooring is milled from a single piece of hardwood, then sanded and finished. Engineered hardwood is made from multiple layers of wood pressed together, topped with a hardwood veneer.

Use non-slip rug pads or grippers made specifically for hardwood floors. Avoid pads with rubber or latex backing, which can discolour the finish over time.

The subfloor must be levelled before installation. Use self-levelling compound for minor dips or install plywood over the existing surface to create a stable, even base.
